Blood Doping Can We Beat It - 1347 Words
Blood Doping: Can We Beat It? All humans, no matter what religion, skin color, age, or gender, have blood streaming through out our bodies. Blood rushes oxygen around the body, pulls carbon dioxide out of the body, sends white blood cells to fight illness and infection, is produced in the bone marrow, carries platelets and fibers that close up wounds, and comes in the types A, B, AB, and O, with type O being a universal blood donor. Blood is not just imperative, it is irreplaceable. Doctors can only rely on the generosity of strangers to donate blood and plasma to blood banks to be stored away for future use. There is no known way to artificially produce blood; this is why it is so valuable. However, some people misuse their own blood inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Artificial erythropoietin can also be used. By increasing the number of erythropoietin in your blood you increase the amount of oxygen that can be brought to your muscles and organs, resulting in fewer discomfort in musc les during workout and more endurance, stamina, and enhanced performance. Blood doping may be most known from lance Armstrong, who admitted to Oparh to using the blood doping method to win the Tour de France seven times (Pretot, 2012). Because of this he lost all of his credit and isnââ¬â¢t the only one to do so. Many former Olympians have been tricked into doping by their coaches as well and have lost all credit for former actions and achievements. It gives athletes an unfair advantage because the doped athlete has much more oxygen in their blood which allows them to perform for longer periods of time without feeling the effects. Blood doping is banned by the International Olympic Committee for this reason and the World Anti-Doping Agency is trying to eliminate it. Many have done blood doping by their own choice as well which not only takes away their right to compete but also damages their health considerably. It is stated that EPO tipped the sporting world upside down so that cynical doctors and drug gurus, rather than talent and training, came to do minate results (Schwarts, 2013).

A turning point free essay sample
Have you ever felt scrutinized to the point where you lose all self-confidence and that why this is the most crucial turning point in my life. It happened after my freshman year in high school. It was right around the beginning of the summer, I was so excited to get out of Imperial for a change. I was going to move to my brotherââ¬â¢s home in Columbus, Nebraska. The reason I was moving was to lose weight and I knew I could do it with my brothersââ¬â¢ support. I knew what task lied ahead of me and was ready to take it on with a good attitude and willingness to change. The reason I was moving away was to better myself physically and give myself more self-confidence. The reason I wanted to do so was because I was just tired of being the way I was and how I felt and wanted a change. Right away I went to work with lifting and thatââ¬â¢s basically what happened for only about a month. I came home around July and I noticed people giving me compliments and unfortunately I still didnââ¬â¢t feel I was at my real potential. Sadly, after I got home I was soon back to my old habits and really didnââ¬â¢t do anything while I was back but just lounged around and let myself fall back into the old me. When football started I got really serious with lifting again. So when school started again I lifted almost every morning with one of my best friends Will. Through the year I started to change again and started to eat healthy but really didnââ¬â¢t work hard enough to lose weight. While the first semester I was just really lifting hard and getting back into the swing of thi ngs, and during the second semester I really got into it and lost weight so I was ready to go back to my brotherââ¬â¢s house again to work hard and was also going there with a feeling of vengeance. When I got down there I was really set on working hard so the first day we went and got me a membership to the YMCA and began working hard again. Throughout the summer my brother finally gave me encouraging words such as ââ¬Å"you could do it and I am proud of you broâ⬠and I had a blast, I also got a job and played noon ball with older guys which was also a good experience because some of them were very talented. This time I stayed through the whole summer and dropped almost sixty pounds and was very proud if I might add, and I am still going strong. I also think it is one of the most crucial turning points in my life and I wish to continue succeeding in everything I do.

The Proposed Legalization Of Same-sex Marriage Is One Of The Essays
The proposed legalization of same-sex marriage is one of the most significant issues in contemporary American family law. Presently, it is one of the most vigorously advocated reforms discussed in law reviews, one of the most explosive political questions facing lawmakers, and one of the most provocative issues emerging before American courts. If same-sex marriage is legalized, it could be one of the most revolutionary policy decisions in the history of American family law. The potential consequences, positive or negative, for children, parents, same-sex couples, families, social structure public health, and the status of women are enormous. Given the importance of the issue, the value of comprehensive debate of the reasons for and against legalizing same-sex marriage should be obvious. Marriage is much more than merely a commitment to love one another. Aside from societal and religious conventions, marriage entails legally imposed financial responsibility and legally authorized financial benefits. Marriage provides automatic legal protections for the spouse, including medical visitation, succession of a deceased spouse's property, as well as pension and other rights. When two adults desire to "contract" in the eyes of the law, as well a perhaps promise in the eyes of the Lord and their friends and family, to be responsible for the obligations of marriage as well as to enjoy its benefits, should the law prohibit their request merely because they are of the same gender? I intend to prove that because of Article IV of the United States Constitution, there is no reason why the federal government nor any state government should restrict marriage to a predefined heterosexual relationship. Marriage has changed throughout the years. In Western law, wives are now equal rather than subordinate partners; interracial marriage is now widely accepted, both in statute and in society; and marital failure itself, rather than the fault of one partner, may be grounds for a divorce. Societal change have been felt in marriages over the past 25 years as divorce rates have increased and have been integrated into even upper class families. Proposals to legalize same-sex marriage or to enact broad domestic partnership laws are currently being promoted by gay and lesbian activists, especially in Europe and North America. The trend in western European nations during the past decade has been to increase legal aid to homosexual relations and has included marriage benefits to some same-sex couples. For example, within the past six years, three Scandinavian countries have enacted domestic partnership laws allowing same-sex couples in which at least one partner is a citizen of the specified country therefore allowing many benefits that heterosexual marriages are given. In the Netherlands, the Parliament is considering domestic partnership status for same-sex couples, all major political parties favor recognizing same-sex relations, and more than a dozen towns have already done so. Finland provides governmental social benefits to same-sex partners. Belgium allows gay prisoners the right to have conjugal visits from same-sex partners. An overwhelming majority of European nations have granted partial legal status to homosexual relationships. The European Parliament also has passed a resolution calling for equal rights for gays and lesbians. In the United States, efforts to legalize same-sex domestic partnership have had some, limited success. The Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. reported that by mid-1995, thirty-six municipalities, eight counties, three states, five state agencies, and two federal agencies extended some benefits to, or registered for some official purposes, same-sex domestic partnerships. In 1994, the California legislature passed a domestic partnership bill that provided official state registration of same-sex couples and provided limited marital rights and privileges relating to hospital visitation, wills and estates, and powers of attorney. While California's Governor Wilson eventually vetoed the bill, its passage by the legislature represented a notable political achievement for advocates of same-sex marriage. The most significant prospects for legalizing same-sex marriage in the near future are in Hawaii, where advocates of same-sex marriage have won a major judicial victory that could lead to the judicial legalization of same-sex marriage or to legislation authorizing same-sex domestic partnership in that state. In 1993, the Hawaii Supreme Court, in Baehr v. Lewin, vacated a state circuit court judgment dismissing same-sex marriage claims and ruled that Hawaii's marriage law allowing heterosexual, but not homosexual, couples to obtain marriage licenses constitutes sex discrimination under the state constitution's Equal Protection Clause and Equal Rights Amendment. The case began in 1991 when three same-sex couples who had been denied marriage licenses by the Hawaii Department of Health brought suit in state court against the director of the department. Hawaii law required couples wishing to marry to obtain a marriage license. While the marriage license law did not explicitly prohibit same-sex marriage at that time, it

Collective Nouns and Verb Agreement in Spanish
Collective Nouns and Verb Agreement in Spanish Collective nouns - singular nouns that refer to more than one being or thing - arent consistently treated as either singular or plural in Spanish. Grammar Rules for Using Collective Nouns There is one grammar rule, however, that is clear: When the collective nounà is followed immediately by a verb, the noun is treated as singular. La gente cree que las cosas estn mal. (People believe things are bad).La muchedumbre fue manipulada. (The crowd was manipulated.)Sobre el papel, el equipo era muy competitivo. (On paper, the team was very competitive.) However, when there are words that intervene - especially de followed by a plural noun - Spanish speakers are inconsistent in the verbs they use. Authorities also disagree on which choice of verb is proper. Note the following examples, all foundà through a search of mainstream Spanish-language web pages: Somos un grupo de personas que conforma la lista de correo electrà ³nico. (We are a group of people who belong to an email list.)Somos un grupo de personas que deseamos compartir con ustedes. (We are a group of people who wish to share with you.)Un rebaà ±o de nubes negras pasea por el cielo. (A group of dark clouds marches across the sky.)El rebaà ±o de hembras deben integrarse en el de los machos. (The herd of females ought to blend with one of males.)Cerca de la mitad de las personas en edad de jubilacià ³n en el mundo no reciben ningà ºn tipo de pensià ³n. (About half of the worlds people of retirement age will not receive any kind of pension.)La mitad de las empresas espaà ±olas realizar on line el 20 por ciento de sus transacciones. (Half of Spanish businesses will carry out 20 percent of their transactions online.)Una docena de chicos se alimenta en el basural. (A dozen children are feeding themselves in the dump.)Una docena de entidades crean una plataforma para impuls ar el laicismo. (A dozen entities are creating a platform to promote expanded use of the laity.) There are some authorities who indicate that the choice of singular or plural verb depends on whether it refers more to the group or to the individual entities that make up the group. But as you can see from the examples above, in real speech no such distinction is made.

Leadership and Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 2
Leadership and Management - Assignment Example oup Problem Solving: Leadership and Motivation: The performance of different members in a business organization largely depends on the leadership style followed within the organization and the factors that motivate the employees personally. Employees may be motivated either by external factors like wages and rewards or by internal factors like their relationship with their work. Based on the different needs of different individuals, there are three motivational theories that are applicable for business organizations. These are the Maslowââ¬â¢s Hierarchy of Needs, Alderferââ¬â¢s ERG Theory, and McClellandââ¬â¢s Theory of Needs (Nader n.d.). Maslow divided the needs of humans into five divisions that include their psychological needs, safety needs, relationship needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization. Psychological needs involve the basic needs of an individual like food, shelter, and clothing. Safety needs include security of jobs, a good working environment, and plans fo r pensions and insurances. Relationship needs reflect the need to socialize and have friends and companions around. Esteem needs are those that are more than the basic needs such as need for appreciation and recognition. Finally, self-actualization is the stage where an individual feels the need to pursue further to achieve something for his own. This need may completely vary from one man to another and tend to become individualistic in nature (Nader n.d.). Alderferââ¬â¢s theory focused on an individualââ¬â¢s need for existence, thus requiring suitable conditions and materials; the need for relatedness that may be achieved through interactions and communications with others; and the need for growth reflected through their achievements and self-actualization. According to McClellandââ¬â¢s theory individuals feel... From the assignment presented by the researcher, it can be concluded that Lee, who was analyzed as the leadership manager of the company proved to be an effective leader as far as finding solution to the problems that were established from the start, such as customer dissatisfaction and employee motivation that was concerned. The researcher analyzed his recommendations and states that instead of ignoring the problem, the leadership manager surveyed and determined that a reward program might prove to be effective to motivate the employees towards effective performance that was lacking in the present situation. The leadership manager also proved to be a responsible leader trying to improve the performance of all the team members such that the organizational goals may be achieved. The proposal for a standardized method of recruitment that was described in the assignment can also be said to be an effective measure suggested by the manager for recruitment of effective people which is othe rwise not achieved through unstructured interview patterns. The researcher then mentiones that understanding the particular needs of employees and hence fulfilling them would be a better option for future improvement and successful work. Moreover, transformational leadership would be recommended in such cases as described in the assignment as it allows to establish better communications between the leader and the employees, thereby improving the relation and move towards more cognitive consensus for problem solving.
